Richard Kattman – Heartbeat of America – August 16 2006: Richard Kattman received the “Keeping America Strong” Award on Heartbeat of America, a 30 minute nationally televised program hosted by William Shatner and presented by Doug Lewellyn in 2002. Ben Hammer, field producer of the show contacted Richard Kattman after attending an event at the Cambridge Center Roof Garden, one of Kattman’s notable landscape design projects. The award was presented for design and construction management services for a 30000 square foot landscape situated adjacent to the Hotel Marriott and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology COOP. Richard Kattman, contracted by Spaulding and Slye representing General Electric Capital, produced design and construction documents and completed construction observation services for the $750000 project .The Grand Opening was held September 18, 2001. Cambridge Center Roof Garden received a National Association of Landscape Contractors Design Award 2004. Description of Cambridge Center Roof Garden: Those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city retreat “up on the roof” to a secret garden in Kendall Square. The size of a football field, the garden sits atop a six story parking garage overlooking Cambridge and downtown Boston.
